Otter and Opalwood Pendant with Rare Laura Mears Otter
This magical pendant features a rare and genuine Laura Mears porcelain otter face cabochon. If you follow Laura’s porcelains, you know how few and far between they are. I feel so blessed to get to work with them. And this piece is truly a one of a kind. This is hand fabricated entirely from sterling and fine silver. I call this one “Joyful”. Solid silver shell embellishments which I die struck in my manual hydraulic press and hand finished, and a gorgeous piece of Indonesian Opalized Wood mimics the rocky shoreline. I textured the backplate with a pebble finish, and circled the whole piece in a substantial raised border. Otters are said to represent playfulness and joy. This one is magic, and truly evokes Joy.
100% natural, this Opalwood scene hosts a color of blue that is so special. This material comes from Indonesia, where the petrified wood mineralizes into opal in the silica rich volcanic ash and soil of the area. Word is, that this particular deposit has been mined out presently, so it’s going to become harder and harder to find cuts like these as time goes. The size of the disc overall (not including the bail) is just under 1 5/8” x 1 5/8”. If you would like to see more photos or videos, message me.
